Retiree Of South Central Bell Had Been Involved In East Ridge Youth Baseball

Robert Bryan Scruggs, of East Brainerd, died February 26, 2007 in a local hospital.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he was retired from South Central Bell (now Bell South) after 34 years of service. A graduate of David Lipscomb College, Mr. Scruggs was a Korean War veteran of the US Army and a member of East Ridge Church of Christ. He was a past Tennessee president of Dizzy Dean Baseball and was inducted into its Gold Circle Hall of Fame in 1990. He was actively involved with the East Ridge Youth Baseball for many years and was an avid UT Vols fan. Mr. Scruggs was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Bryan and Sadie Woodlee Scruggs and sister, Marian Scruggs Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Anderson Scruggs; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Angie Scruggs, Chattanooga; Mark and Lynette Scruggs, Dallas, Tx.; adopted son, David Scruggs, Chattanooga; three granddaughters, Alex, Krissy and Kylie Scruggs of Chattanooga; special friends, Ken and Joy Goode, Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Charles Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
