Craig Mundie, Chief Research and Strategy Officer for Microsoft Corporation will give the keynote address on Friday morning, March 6, at the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education Symposium being held March 4-7 at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

Mr. Mundie oversees Microsoft research and other technology initiatives, the company's health and education businesses, and a number of technology incubations. Mr. Mundie also works with government and business leaders around the world on technology policy, regulation and standards.

“This is a rare opportunity to hear one of the country’s leading thinkers in the area of technology development,” said Barbara Boucher Owens, chair of SIGCSE. “We are delighted to bring Mr. Mundie to the SIGCSE 2009 Technical Symposium.”

Mr. Mundie will give the keynote address at the Friday, March 6, morning plenary session.
The SIGCSE Technical Symposium addresses problems common among educators working to develop, implement and/or evaluate computing programs, curricula and courses. The Symposium provides a forum for sharing new ideas for syllabi, laboratories and other elements of teaching and pedagogy at all levels of instruction.

Elliott Koffman, Ph.D., Temple University, will be honored as the 2009 SIGCSE Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education winner at the Thursday, March 5, morning plenary session. He will then address the session.

Gregory Abowd, Ph.D., Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), will deliver the featured address at the SIGCSE Luncheon on Saturday, March 7.

Michael Clancy, University of California, Berkeley, will receive the SIGCSE award for Lifetime Service to the Computer Science Education Community.

The ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education provides a forum for educators to discuss issues related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of computing programs, curricula, and courses, as well as syllabi, laboratories, and other elements of teaching and pedagogy.

SIGCSE sponsors or co-sponsors several annual conferences held in varied locations around the world and publishes the SIGCSE Bulletin quarterly. The SIGCSE Symposium is the largest gathering of computing educators in the world. SIGCSE is part of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the largest organization for professionals in computing.
