Caleb Brown in his hospital room
Caleb Brown, the two-year-old Nashville boy who was struck by a rock at Fall Creek Falls, was due to undergo stomach surgery to correct a reflux problem on Friday.
His father, Tim Brown, said the surgery was set at 2 p.m. at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital, where the family has received care since the tragic incident on Oct. 18.
A test showed that Caleb has three times the normal amount of reflux, the father said on the Pray for Caleb Brown Facebook page.
The reflux problem needs to be fixed before Caleb is transferred to Scottish Rite Childrens Rehabilitation Hospital in Atlanta. Mr. Brown said it appears Caleb will be able to get in there.
Mr. Brown said authorities believe that the large rock that hit Caleb in the back of the head was either thrown or pushed off by someone at the top of the falls.
He said the family has grown close to Van Buren County Deputy Sheriff Jamie Walling, who "was a hero the day Caleb was struck by the rock."
The Wallings also have a son, Alex, who is seriously ill due to complications from diabetes.
The Brown family posted on the Facebook page the first pictures of Caleb with his parents in their room at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
