Clifford Goolesby, Jr.
Clifford Goolesby, Jr., 74, of Rossville, Ga., died Saturday, October 1, 2011.
He attended Parkway Baptist Temple and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mr. Goolesby was a former singer with the Gospel Echoes. He was a 1956 graduate of Jackson High School in Jackson, S.C., where he was captain of the high school football and basketball teams, receiving five college scholarships in football.
Mr. Goolesby was retired from Combustion Engineering Company with 41 years of service. He loved fishing, restoring classic cars, mainly Corvettes, and was the co-founder of Corvette of Chattanooga. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Goolesby completed the process of reading the Bible through five times.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Goolesby Sr., and step-father, James Edison Satterfield.
Survivors are his wife, Sarah Silver Goolesby; four children, Marsha Goolesby-Barker and her husband, Johnny, Soddy Daisy, Mitzi Goolesby Carver and her husband Greg, Rossville, Clifford Goolesby III, and fiancé, Jennifer, Rossville and Jerel Keith Goolesby, Rossville; mother, Pearl Gant Goolesby Satterfield, Rossville; four siblings Mary Goolesby Rakestraw and husband John, Marietta, Ga., Faye Goolesby Johnson, wife of the late Claude Johnson, Rainsville, Ala., Lonnie Satterfield, Fort Oglethorpe and Ronnie Satterfield, East Brainerd; five grandchildren, Landon Carver, Brian Goolesby, Chandler Carver, Bradley Goolesby and Sarah Barker.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Sampson and Dr. Jerry Atkins officiating.
Interment is in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with Wayne Morgan, Jack Silver, Eddie Johnson, Jake Rakestraw, Landon Carver and Rob Clark serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Silver, Jr., Scott Lynn, Danny Puryear and the late Doug Slagle.
