New Lookout Hiking Club Plans 2 Fall Hikes

  • Monday, October 22, 2012

The newly formed Lookout Hiking Club is planning two fall hikes.

They will be led by John Wilson, author of a book on Lookout Mountain.

Rodger Ling, who wrote a book on Lookout hiking trails, is also slated to take part in the Saturday morning hikes.

The first will begin at Cravens House at 9 a.m. on Nov. 3. It will include the "rifle pits", the Hardy Trail, the old Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Demeray, a portion of Skyuka Trail and the Light Mill Trail. The latter trail was a pioneer wagon road that went from the mill of James Light on Lookout Creek to where it joined the Old Federal Road behind the present Ruby Falls.

The second hike on Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. will include the Guild Trail and the Old Wauhatchie Pike Greenway. The meeting spot will be John C. Wilson Park on Cummings Highway.
