Rebuild Rowing Helps Hurricane Sandy Victims

Thursday, November 01, 2012
The Head of the Hooch has announced an effort to support the rowing community that has been affected by Hurricane Sandy. They have established Rebuild Rowing, a joint effort with the Head of the Hooch and the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga Inc.

The Community Foundation has agreed to accept donations from the rowing community that will be used exclusively to support rowing programs that have been affected by the recent hurricane. The organization can accept tax deductible contributions and use them to rebuild rowing programs affected by hurricane Sandy.

There will be a tent at the Hooch to provide more information and to accept donations by cash or check, or go to https://cfgc.caritas247.com/Donate.aspx?dcid=PassR to make online donations by credit card.  All monies raised will be tax deductible (as gift to the Community Foundation 503(c)3). One hundred percent of the money raised will be given to programs that have experienced a loss from hurricane Sandy. The Hooch will direct those grants.

The organization will accept grant requests from any school, high school or college that has experienced a loss from the hurricane. Due to tax code, it appears that they are not able to give to a club, such as ARC or LRC, but can support any school program that has experienced a loss. They will give away all funds collected within 12 months of receipt.

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
