Wilson Wins Walker Sheriff Race; Heiskell Re-Elected; Cross Elected Dade Sheriff; Chitwood Is Victor In Whitfield; Deffenbaugh Wins House 1

Incumbent Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson overwhelmed Democratic challenger Tim Westbrook 17,276 to 4,167 in Tuesday's election. 

Sole Commissioner Bebe Heisekll got 6,326 of the early votes. She wound up with 13,380, which was far ahead of the write-in totals. Exact totals were not immediately available on write-ins for Ales Campbell. She got into the race after Commissioner Heiskell won a squeaker over Dr. Paul Shaw in the primary.

Republican John Deffenbaugh outpolled Democrat Thomas McMahan for House District 1. In Walker County, the margin was 7,576 to 3,155.

In Dade County, Ray Cross was elected sheriff.

He had won the Republican primary earlier, and on Tuesday he defeated former Sheriff Phil Street 3,256 to 2,670.

In House District 1 in Dade County, it was Deffenbaugh 3,592 and McMahan 1,985.

Sheriff Scott Chitwood, a Democrat, won re-election in Whitfield County. He defeated Republican challenger Jim Stafford 16,326 to 9,914.
