Virgil Boyd Crowe, 98, of Red Bank, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2012.  

A native of Meigs and Rhea Counties, he had resided in Red Bank since 1951.  He retired from DuPont after 28 years of service.  He was a devoted Christian and a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.  He also attended Mountain Creek Church of Christ.  He was a member of the Red Bank Masonic Lodge.  Boyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.  He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. “Will” Crowe and Louella Barger Crowe; and his first wife, Una Ray Crowe; brothers:  Marion, Charlie, Walter and Claude Crowe; sisters:  Imogene Thurman and Willie Mae LeQuire; and step-son, Mike Patterson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Patterson Crowe; daughters, Bettye Smith of Soddy Daisy and Marcia (Chester) Black of Harrison; stepdaughter, Brenda Patterson of Ooltewah; brother, Ray (Frances) Crowe of Soddy Daisy; sister, Gail Roddy of Toledo, Oh. “PaPa” will be dearly missed by grandchildren:  Bobby Smith of Nashville, Kim Ford of Chattanooga, Jim (Celeste) Black of Fayetteville, Tn. and Debbie (Nick) Rose of Hendersonville, Tn.; stepgrandchildren, Carmen (Billy) Hankins of East Ridge and Shannon Patterson of Ooltewah; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Life Care Center of Hixson for their compassionate care of their loved one.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 24, at Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace with Minister Jim Black and Associate Pastor Bert Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.  

Visitation is from 12–2 p.m. on Friday at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace.
