Erlanger At Hutcheson Losses Continue To Mount

  • Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Losses at Erlanger at Hutcheson Hospital rose to $1.9 million in April. It was the fifth straight month of increasing losses at the Fort Oglethorpe facility, dating back to $894,354 last December.

Board members of the hospital that serves three North Georgia counties had little comment at a finance committee meeting on Wednesday attended by administrator Roger Forgey, a former executive of Erlanger Health System, which is having its own financial woes. The full board meets in a week.

Hutcheson recently took another $1.5 million draw from a $20 million line of credit offered by Erlanger when it took over the troubled facility last year.

The draw is now up to $11.4 million.

For April, Hutcheson had $2.8 million in revenue and $4.7 million in costs.

The total loss for the fiscal year is above $9 million.

Average daily (acute) census for the month was 25 - down from 31 in April of 2011. Births dropped from 58 to 41.

Surgeries slumped from 331 to 275.

Emergency room visits increased from 2,624 to 2,825.

And adjusted patient days was up from 2,988 to 3,207.

Outpatient visits (without ER) were up from 5,596 to 6,586.
