  • Monday, August 20, 2012

The Chattanooga Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will hold a promotion ceremony on Tuesday with Rep. Kevin Brooks as the special presenter.

It will be at the Brainerd Hills Presbyterian Church, 6488 East Brainerd Road, (between Lee Highway and Highway 75). The public is invited to attend.

A color guard will be posting the colors at the beginning of the awards ceremony, which will start at 6:30 p.m.

Cadet John Paul Schumacher from the Chattanooga Composite Squadron of Tennessee Wing will be awarded the Ira C. Eaker Award during an awards ceremony at the squadron.  This award honors the late Air Force General Ira C. Eaker, aviation pioneer, career military officer, and one of the chief architects and visionaries of the U.S. Air Force.

Cadet Jonathon "Riley" Blanton will be awarded the Amelia Earhart Award during the same awards ceremony. The  Amelia Earhart Award honors the late Amelia Earhart, aviatrix, advocate, and pioneer, who set many records for women aviators in  aviation’s infancy, and who was lost while attempting to be the first woman to circumnavigate the globe.

Rep. Brooks is also known to CAP members as Lt  Col Brooks, who was last year's Squadron Commander for the Tennessee Legislative Squadron.  Many of the area's higher ranking officers will also be in attendance.

After the awards ceremony, the squadron will have a cadet staff change of command ceremony, followed by a brief reception.
