Hutcheson Hospital Makes Money In December; On Track For Profitable Year

Monday, January 28, 2013
Hutcheson Medical Center officials reported an overall system profit for December at Monday’s Board of Directors’ Budget and Finance Committee meeting, citing increased inpatient and emergency room volumes as primary factors for the gain.

Hospital leadership reported that positive December earnings were $149,146, which represents a $428,116 improvement over the December budget and a $1.04 million improvement versus December 2011.

Compared to last year, the hospital census in December was up 42 percent, total surgeries were up 21 percent, and visits to the Fuller Cancer Center were up 18 percent. Visits to the Emergency Room were up 17 percent and contributed to the highest monthly ER volume in over 20 years.

“We are happy to report that Hutcheson has been able to sustain first quarter earnings,” stated Roger Forgey, president and CEO of Hutcheson Medical Center. “Hutcheson is on budget year to date, which puts the hospital on track for its first profitable year in quite a while.”

Signal Mountain Couldn't Manage Public Education

I have been reading the buzz about Signal Mountain and other small municipalities considering a move to form their own school district within their municipal boundaries.  It is quite the comedy hour considering the notion that small cities that for decades could not even manage small sewer systems or 911 districts, are somehow going to do a better job with public education ... It took the Hamilton County School board nine months before the group hired a search firm to find a new superintendent.
