Corker Says Stronger Sanctions Needed Against North Korea

Monday, February 25, 2013

Senator Bob Corker, (R-Tn.), ranking Republican member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Monday made the following statement after unanimous Senate passage of a resolution condemning North Korea’s recent nuclear test, which violated numerous international agreements and poses real dangers to regional and global security.

“North Korea’s recent nuclear and missile tests pose real dangers for regional and global security and will not go unchallenged by the United States or the international community.

Their actions also highlight the need for modernization of U.S. nuclear forces so we can maintain an effective nuclear deterrent to protect Americans and our allies in the region,” Sen. Corker said.

The resolution, cosponsored by Sen. Corker, calls for implementation of new sanctions against the dictatorship in Pyongyang and additional steps by the U.S. and the international community to confront North Korea’s proliferation of nuclear and other dangerous technology.
