The Chattanooga Hamilton County NAACP will host its seventh annual Black Ink Poetry/Spoken Word Contest, Excellence in Expressions, on Feb. 16, from 1-3 p.m. (Competitors arrive by 12:30 p.m.) The event will be held in the EPB Community Room, 10 W. MLK Blvd, Downtown Chattanooga.
This event is free and open to the public. Awards include cash, gifts, and more.
Criteria for participants:
- Interactive poetry contest focusing on African-American history
- Poems must be original work
- Must read poem aloud and be present to win
- Contestants will interact with judges and audience to elaborate on motivations.
- There will be an adult (18+) and youth (17 and under) division.
- Poetry must be free of vulgarity or derogatory content.
- Poetry can be mailed to the NAACP, Attention: Poetry Contest, P.O.
