Sheriff Moves Ron Parson From Supervising County Jail; Demotes Him To Captain After IA Report

  • Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Sheriff Jim Hammond has removed Deputy Chief of Corrections Ron Parson from overseeing the county jail after getting a stinging internal affairs report about his verbal treatment of correctional officers.

The sheriff said he will be demoted one rank to captain and will lose about $11,000 per year in pay.

Parson will now oversee civil process and the court officers.

Sheriff Hammond said, "I am going to throw a wide net to find a professional jail administrator."

He said the internal affairs probe began about two months ago after a correctional officer filed charges.

Sheriff Hammond said the report wound up being the largest in his administration - with over 20 witnesses and more than 400 pages long.

He said 10 charges were founded and three unfounded. None were criminal counts, he said.

Sheriff Hammond said some of the behavior involved comments about the weight of correctional officers.
