The City Council on Tuesday approved C-7 zoning for developer John Wise, who is planning a mixed-use development of offices and apartments on Cherokee Boulevard at the corner of Stringer Street.
He had sought a zoning change from R-1 Residential, C-2 Convenience Commercial and O-1 Office Zones to C-7 North Shore Commercial/Mixed Use Zone.
The site is less than an acre.
There is one abandoned building on the property.
The Regional Planning Agency staff recommend approval, but the Planning Commission recommended denial after developer Wise did not show up for the meeting and a number of neighbors objected.
Mr. Wise told the City Council, "I just missed the date."
Neighbors said they now agree with the C-7 zoning.
