Police Told Stabbing Victim At Motel Was Trying To Force His Way Into Room

  • Monday, May 20, 2013

Police said a fatal stabbing at the Country Hearth Suites on E. 20th Street came after an argument over a dice game.

William Morris Jr., 66, is charged in the Friday night death of Alexis Lewis, 51.

Police said he was stabbed one time in the chest and was found dead outside the motel. A trail of blood led from where he collapsed to room #342. Morris and Tabitha Hinton were located in the room and taken in for questioning.

Police were told that Lewis took $10 from Morris and a struggle ensued.

Lewis left with the $10, but returned to the room later and tried to force his way in. The pair said they tried to keep him from getting in.

Ms. Hinton said she was trying to close the door when Morris reached over her in a stabbing-like motion. The victim then left, and they were able to close the door.

Lewis walked to the other side of the motel before falling to the ground.
