James Howard Rogers, age 89, of Whitwell, died on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Valley View Assisted Living after many years with Alzheimer's disease.
He served in the U. S. Army, 272nd Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. He was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Dorothy Hudson Rogers; parents, Henry and Minnie Sartain Rogers; sisters, Hulda Cox, Forestine (Peanut) Lyda; Willie (Dib) Davis, brothers Jack, Charles, Robert, and Homer Rogers.
Survivors include daughter, Christie (Wayne) Walker, Ooltewah; son Ronnie (Deborah) Rogers, Soddy-Daisy; grandsons, Shane (Kristin) and Casey Curtis, Justin Walker; great-grandchildren, Trinity and Gaige; sister, Faye Gholston, Whitwell.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers and nurses at Valley View Assisted Living in Whitwell. Also, the Amedisys nurses and caregivers to all who gave so much kindness, love, and patience to our Dad during his stay. They are a very special group, angels placed here on earth.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with burial in Red Hill Cemetery.
