City Wants Delta Queen Moved From Coolidge Park

  • Saturday, September 14, 2013

City officials have filed papers to have the historic Delta Queen riverboat moved from its mooring site by the city's Coolidge Park.

Lacie Stone, spokesperson for Mayor Andy Berke said, "We are proud of our spectacular waterfront and are working to improve it for citizens and visitors alike, as evidenced by Mayor Berke’s letter earlier this summer to the Army Corps of Engineers regarding the nearby dilapidated barge.

"Unfortunately, the Delta Queen has fallen behind on its rent payments, and we have received complaints from citizens that the vessel detracts from the riverfront by blocking the beautiful view from Coolidge Park toward downtown.

"We wish the Delta Queen well and will continue to work with its owners during this time of transition."

A group from Cincinnati is working to return the Delta Queen to plying the American waterways rather than serving as a "floating hotel" as it has in Chattanooga for the past several years.
