Outdoor Chattanooga Featured Event
Fireside at Greenway Oct. 30
Erin Medley and a starry night
Outdoor Chattanooga will finish our 2014 Fireside at Greenway Farm series with a special evening of guitar folk and stargazing this Thurs., Oct.
30, 7 to 9 p.m.
at Greenway Farm,
5051 Gann Store Rd., in Hixson. Bring kids, blankets and something to roast over the fire. Erin Medley will provide the music. The Barnard Astronomical Society of Chattanooga will bring the telescopes.

Open Canoeing - Before the Fireside Program
Rent a canoe on Fireside evenings, from 6 to 7 p.m., for a family paddle on N. Chickamauga Creek. Cost is $20 per canoe. No reservations are necessary. Just show up and paddle. Outdoor Chattanooga will provide all equipment. Infants and small toddlers need to bring their own life jackets.

Rapid Learning Resumes Nov. 4
Outdoor Chattanooga's Rapid Learning Whitewater Program will resume kayak skills practices on Tues., Nov. 4, with two sessions: 7 and 8 p.m., at the Southern Adventist University Hulsey Wellness Center's indoor pool. Join the practice to keep your whitewater kayak skills sharp during your winter break from paddling. A $2 admission fee applies to the center's pool. Camp Chair Cinema: "The City Dark" Nov. 7
"The City Dark" is the offering from the Lookout Wild Film Festival at our next, free Camp Chair Cinema, happening Fri., Nov. 7, 7 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park. The gorgeous film looks at what's happening to our views of the night sky on a "planet that never sleeps." BYO camp chair for the indoor screening. We'll provide the popcorn. The screening of this PBS award-winning film is co-hosted by WTCI.
Hike the Trails of the TN River Gorge Nov. 8
The Nickajack Naturalist will join Outdoor Chattanooga for a hike on trails overlooking the TN River Gorge on Sat., Nov. 8, beginning at9 a.m., in Prentice Cooper State Forest. The moderate, 5-mile hike will take participants to Snoopers Rock, and the Mullins Cove and Ransom Hollow overlooks. Though there are no severe elevation gains, the trails are rugged and some hiking experience is preferred. Volunteer Opportunities with Outdoor Chattanooga
Help Us Recycle at the Hooch!
Volunteers are needed to help the City of Chattanooga institute a recycling programfor our large, downtown events.  Please come help us collect recyclables in four hour shifts on Sat. and Sun., Nov. 1 and 2, and keep the waterfront green.

And speaking of the Hooch, volunteers are also needed to help with set up, break down, and all sorts of other fun jobs. Four hour shifts are available Thurs. - Sun., Oct. 30 - Nov. 2. Come be a part of the action. Rowing experience is NOT required.

Skilled Belayers for the ICL
The Interscholastic Climbing League needs volunteer belayers for several scheduled meets, including Sat., Nov. 1 and Nov. 15. Come help the region's newest high school aged climbers succeed! Email Terri Chapin or call (423) 643-6888 to volunteer.

Symphony on Stringers Nov. 1
The Friends of Stringers Ridge and the TN River Gorge Trust will host Symphony on Stringers, a free, public concert by the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera's Brass Quintet this Sat., Nov. 1, from 3-5 p.m. on Old Baldy at the top of Stringers Ridge Park. Hike in with a blanket or chair and enjoy a very special concert with views of the TN River valley and fall foliage. Volunteers will be stationed at park trailheads beginning at 1 p.m. to help guide audience members. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted for the Friends' work at the park.

*Crabtree Farms Pumpkin Smash Nov. 1
Pumpkin carvin', eatin' and chuckin' will be part of the day's festivities at Crabtree Farms' Pumpkin Smash Fall Festival, on Sat., Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Face painting, potato sack races, and other fun stuff will be a part of the day's events. Don't miss the pie eating contest, which begins at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $2 or a donation of one or more non-perishable food items.

*Upchuck 50K Nov. 8
Sixty ultra runners will take on the season's most grueling, technical race at theUpchuck 50K, happening on Sat., Nov. 8 on the Three Gorges section of the Cumberland Trail. Hikers: be warned that the trail segment from the Soddy-Daisy Senior Center to the Lower Leggett Rd. trailhead will be in use for the race most of the day.

Lookout Mtn.'s Glen Falls Trail Closed
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is advising that the Glen Falls Trail, located on Lookout Mtn., is closed and will remain closed until further notice. The trail is adjacent to the recent mud slide that closed Ochs Highway on Oct. 14. Visitors are asked not to park in the pull off on Ochs Hwy. at the trail head until the mudslide hazard area can be repaired.
