Major Traffic Shift On U.S. 27 To Occur On Monday

  • Friday, October 31, 2014

Work continues on the U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Road/Boulevard) On the evenings of Friday and Saturday, the contractor will close the entrance ramp from Dayton Blvd.

to U.S. 27 South between 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to install a high mast light.

On Monday evening, the contractor will be conducting a major traffic shift on the northbound side of U.S. 27. Traffic on U.S. 27 North will be shifted to the newly-constructed lanes throughout the project limits. The shift will begin at 7 p.m. and end by 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Following the shift, all the available lanes will not be immediately opened, but the new alignment should make it easier for motorists to negotiate their way through the project.  There is still much work to be done, but this new traffic pattern will allow the contractors access to other areas of the project that are not yet completed.

As part of this shift, U.S. 27 North will be reduced to one lane from the Signal Mountain Road exit to the northern end of the project for approximately three weeks to allow the contractor to safely complete work on the median barrier wall.  Those traveling from U.S. 27 North to Signal Mountain Road will continue to exit as they are accustomed to doing.

The section of U.S. 27 North that will be reduced to one lane will be relatively short, and it will only affect motorists going northbound toward Hixson and Soddy Daisy.  Motorists are urged to use caution and exercise patience as they adjust to the new traffic pattern.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary. The estimated project completion date is February 2015.
