Matthew Owens
Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained an indictment for a Crossville man accused in connection with his wife’s murder.
At the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI special agents began investigating the discovery of skeletal remains on Pugh Cemetery Road in Cumberland County on Sept. 27.
Forensic analysis later positively identified the remains as those of Nina Karen Owens, a 47-year-old Crossville woman reported missing by her sister a month earlier. During the course of the investigation, agents working alongside investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, developed information which led to her husband, Matthew Owens.
On Thursday morning, a special Cumberland County Grand Jury returned an indictment for the Crossville man, charging the 39-year-old with one count of first-degree murder.
TBI agents and deputies subsequently arrested him at a home in Crossville and booked him into the Cumberland County Jail, where he was being held on $500,000 bond.
