A 19-year-old has been charged in the destruction of a Baptist church in Lookout Valley over the weekend.

Chattanooga Police on Wednesday arrested Garrett Michael Belanger, of 3160 Plaza Circle.

Members of Valley Memorial Baptist Church arrived Sunday morning to find major damage inside and out.

All the church pews were overturned and books and audio equipment were tossed around.

A water fountain was ripped off the wall, which caused the carpets to be soaked.

Items were torn off the walls in the pastor's office, and a children's classroom was destroyed.

Plants were pulled up outside.

The vandal did not take security cameras, which may have recorded the incident.

Services will be held in the church gym until extensive repairs are made.
