Juanita Hicks Tate, 89, of Lafayette, GA and formerly of Trion, GA, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Cozy Manor Assisted Living Center.
Mrs. Tate was born in LaGrange, GA on January 22, 1925, to the late Walter L. Hicks and Beulah Wilson Hicks. She was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church since she was six years old, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Lafayette Band Boosters. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Tate and her husband, Bill Tate, owned and operated the Tate Furniture Company. Following her retirement, she was a volunteer at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Tate, Sr.; a son, William P. “Buster” Tate, Jr.; a brother, Jessie Hicks; a sister, Gladys Smith; and a great-granddaughter, Alexandria N. Mousseau.
Mrs. Tate is survived by her daughters, Patricia Faulkner of Trion and Phyllis Maddox of Lafayette; grandchildren, LaWayne and Jennifer Bowling, Sandra and Stewart Bailey, Andrea Maddox, Allison and Austin Pugmire, William O. Tate, Amy and Russell Tate, Lorri Anna Tate-Hulsey and Jeremy Hulsey; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Tate will be held Friday, December 26, at 3 p.m. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Art Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers: LaWayne Bowling, Joshua Mousseau, William O. Tate, Austin Pugmire, Jack Smith and Bill Ransom.
Mrs. Tate will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday, December 26 from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.
The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Trion United Methodist Church.
