Police said a woman dressed in body armor was finally taken into custody on Friday afternoon after she fired at two vehicles and pointed her gun at other motorists as well as a police officer.

At approximately 3:52 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Department responded to 1300 Cloverdale Dr. for shots fired.

Officers located two victims who said they were at a stop sign when the suspect, Julia A. Shields, pulled up in a dark-colored sedan and fired a single round into their vehicle which struck the radiator and disabled it.

A short time later, police received several more calls about Ms. Shields pointing a firearm at people as she drove by.

During that time, it was reported that Ms. Shields shot another vehicle in the area of 1300 Cloverdale Dr.

Officers located Ms. Shields in her vehicle in the lot of Stuart Heights Baptist Church where she began to flee. She led officers down Highway 153 and Hixson Pike where she pointed her firearm at several other motorists as she passed them.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Cloverdale Drive and Koblan Drive where Ms. Shields pointed her firearm at an officer.

She was taken into custody without incident or injury to her or others.

Ms. Shields, 45, is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, felony evading arrest and felony reckless endangerment.

Her address was given at 1504 Cloverdale Dr. in Hixson.

Her only prior local arrests were for traffic offenses in 2006 and speeding cases in 2000 and 2003.
