Cameron Lewis posted a 73, good for fourth individually, and the Covenant men's golf team sits in sixth after the first round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate at the Wynlakes Golf & Country Club in Montgomery.
Covenant is in sixth after shooting a 310 in the opening round. Wittenberg leads the tournament with 290. The tournament consists of 10 teams.
Lewis' 73 puts him just two strokes behind the clubhouse leader, John Chaney and David Wetterich of Wittenberg. Freshman Nate Haney carded a 78 which has him in a tie for 27th individually, while Scott McKnight scored a 79.
James Van Nice shot an 80 and Alan Craig rounded out the Covenant golfers with a first round score of 84. Playing as an individual, Nick Blauw shot an 86 in the opening round.
Covenant sits only one stroke back of fifth place Berry's B team and five behind fourth place Piedmont. USA South members LaGrange, Huntingdon, Piedmont and Maryville are all participating in the event.
The second and final round of the tournament will take place on Tuesday morning.
