Mattice, Kathryn McCoy

Kathryn McCoy Mattice died on April 20, 2014.

She was born in Chattanooga on June 3, 1920. Kathryn and her husband were charter members of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church before transferring to St. Paul’s and eventually to St. Timothy’s on Signal Mountain. Following graduation, Kathryn worked as an executive secretary at the Krystal Company. Later in life, she retired from AGT Furniture and proceeded to volunteer many years at Changed Lives Ministries and Memorial Hospital Gift Shop.

Katie, as her grandchildren knew her, spent her later years at Alexian Village on Signal Mountain. She assisted with the welcoming committee, where everyone she met was a new friend. Katie was known for her sharp wit, and always viewed life as an adventure to be enjoyed. Katie was blessed to have many friends from her youth in St. Elmo, to her working and volunteer years, to her time with the Alexian community on Signal Mountain. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her sons and grandsons, and felt blessed to have two wonderful daughters-in-law. Katie left a legacy of caring for others, love for her family, and laughter for the soul.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Sandlin Mattice and her parents, Harry Calvin McCoy and Annie Lewis McCoy and a sister, Mary McCoy Kindrick.

She is survived by her sons, Harry S. Mattice, Jr. (Janet) and W. Scott Mattice (Donna), of Signal Mountain; six grandsons: Harry S. Mattice III (Andrea) of Los Angeles, Bryan Christopher Mattice of Chattanooga, Kevin LeVan Mattice (Rory) of Denver, W. Scott Mattice, Jr. and Taylor Turnbull Mattice of Atlanta and Weston Lewis Mattice of Knoxville. One great-grandson, Harry S. Mattice IV, of Los Angeles, also survive her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga,Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. 

The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 25, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Signal Mountain, from 5-7 p.m.. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, April 26, at Alexian Village, Signal Mountain from 12-2 p.m.

The family will attend a private burial Saturday afternoon.
