Saturday, April 26, 2014 - by B.B. Branton

McCallie used timely hitting and rally killing defensive plays to sweep a baseball doubleheader from visiting Brentwood Academy, 5-4 and 3-0, Saturday.

Game One - McCallie 5, B.A. 4 - In the opener, McCallie rallied for four runs in the sixth to win 5-4 and Drew Vaughn gained the win in relief.

In the four-run sixth, Tyson Buchanan had a two run single to tie the game, and later scored what proved to be the winning run on a Thomas Boals single.

Game Two - McCallie 3 B.A. 0 - Tyler Payne tossed a complete game shutout and Christian Burnett had a pair of RBI singles and John Hennan also had an RBI single for the win.

Payne struck out four and allowed five hits as McCallie improves to 42-6 with a 15-game win streak intact.

Good Defense - Game 2: McCallie used a double play in the third to double up a runner on second with no out ... in the seventh, B.A. had two on and one out ... McCallie ended the game in style as third baseman Spencer Morgan made a diving stop of a ground ball and threw to first baseman Winston Widener who dug the throw out of the dirt for the game-ending out.

Roy Exum: Al Sharpton’s Wise Remarks

I’ll admit I paid little more than scant attention to the Monday funeral of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old who was shot and killed by police bullets in Ferguson, Mo., after he allegedly was involved in strong-armed robbery. There are too many tawdry details and, in my way of thinking, there is nothing under God’s sun, absolutely nothing, that gives others the right to riot, burn ... (click for more)
