Jury Duty Scam Reported In Walker County

Monday, April 28, 2014

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson is warning citizens of a current scam being executed in Walker County involving jury duty summons.

The caller will advise the victim that he or she has failed to show up for jury duty and as a result, they are in very big trouble.  The caller will then instruct the victim to go purchase a prepaid credit card with a substantial amount of funds.

After the card is purchased, the victim is advised to call the suspect back and give all the credit card information to him over the phone to cover cost of fines and fees.

Sheriff Wilson cautions the public that neither the Sheriff’s Office nor the Clerk’s Office will ever telephone a citizen with these type of instructions.

If you have been the victim or target of a jury duty scam, call Walker County E 911 dispatch at 706-375-7810.  A deputy will be dispatched to your home or business.

Vehicle Emissions Testing Causes More Pollution Than It Prevents - And Response

While a noble cause to make sure vehicles are operating efficiently with the minimum amount of pollutants, a simple analysis makes it somewhat evident the VET program in Chattanooga causes more pollution that it prevents.  Though I don't know how many vehicles are tested on an annual basis, if you assume an average round trip of 10 miles to the nearest testing station (five ... At the start of the current school year, state education officials gathered at some “state testing task force” when disciplinary records from across Tennessee happened to be revealed. There’s no question that the Bradley Bears are ranked first in the initial state wrestling poll and they proved they deserve to be in that top spot following a 43-30 victory over the Baylor Red Raiders. Baylor is ranked fourth in that first poll and will surely be a force to be reckoned with in Division II as the season progresses, but the Bears are head and shoulders ahead after ... Tyner outscored Red Bank 15-0 to start the second quarter ... (click for more)
