James Shepherd
James Allen Shepherd, 80, of Hixson, died on Thursday, April 3, 2014.
He was born on August 25, 1933 in Fayette, Al., to the late Lloyd and Katherine Cunningham Shepherd. James was a resident of Davenport, Ia., for 40 years and served as the church clerk of Rockingham Church of God in Davenport for 25 years. He served for two years in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. James retired from Alcoa after 33 years of service and moved to Hixson in 2000. He was an avid Alabama fan, loved to play golf and was a member of Abba’s House. He and his wife, Sue, loved to travel extensively, traveling most of the world. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Sue Babb Shepherd; children, Pam (Gene) Longobardi, Patti (Pat) Flaherty and Philip (Kim) Shepherd; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Lonnie B. (Sonny) Shepherd; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Milligan and Pastor Alan Johnston officiating. The family will have a private interment at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
