Moss, Billy Buel (Cleveland)

  • Thursday, July 17, 2014

Billy Buel “Bill” Moss,76, of Cleveland, TN, died Monday, July 14, 2014.

He served as the City Judge of Cleveland for 38 years. The son of Buel and Blanche Moss, Judge Moss was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1938. The family returned to Cleveland, Tennessee, in 1946, and he resided on the family farm for nearly all of his life. He attended Waterville Elementary and graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1956. He received his bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1961 and his J.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1965. He has practiced law in Cleveland ever since.

He will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, and expansive hospitality.  In public, as a judge and advocate, he wanted nothing more than to be fair in the administration of justice. In private and on his daily rounds in downtown Cleveland, he was known for his warm heart, easy laughter, generous spirit, and love of a good story. He accepted and understood human frailty, and loved his friends, family, and fellow man very deeply.

He is survived by his partner of 22 years, Pamela Hill Moss; two daughters, Jami Moss Wise of Atlanta and her husband Fred and Jennifer Moss Cleveland of Nashville and her husband Albert; and one granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Cleveland.

There will be a gathering of family, friends and colleagues at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, in the County Commission Room at the Bradley County Courthouse. This room served as the City Courtroom during the construction of the new facilities.  Bring a story to share with a friend as we celebrate the life of Judge Bill Moss.  There will be a few brief remarks by Mayor Tom Rowland, Judge Lawrence Puckett and perhaps others.  The “proceedings” will be followed by an opportunity for you to visit together and perhaps carry your visits forward to the venue of your choosing.

The family requests that if you desire, in lieu of flowers , you give to the charity of your choice.

Ralph Buckner Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
