The second annual CAPTURE Community Film Making Event kicks off Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Bessie Smith Hall. Hosted by the Association for Visual Arts (AVA), this one-of-a-kind event provides amateur and professional film makers alike to contribute footage that will be edited into three short films.
The kick off Friday night will be held at 5:30 p.m. at The Bessie Smith Cultural Center.
Participants will hear more details of this year’s theme, meet this year’s judge, director Denny Tedesco, and watch a screening of Mr. Tedesco’s documentary, “The Wrecking Crew”.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to make the art of film more accessible to anyone and everyone who wants to participate,” said Anne Wilson, executive director of AVA. “In our modern environment, virtually everyone has access to a video camera but what we don’t always have is a way for them to express themselves through this technology. By community-sourcing imagery and handing that footage over to professional musicians and professional editors, we are both creating films unique to Chattanooga and empowering the inner artist in each of us."
Registered participants will discover the theme for this year’s event on Friday. (If you are unable to attend Friday night’s event, registration and the theme will be available on the website). Participants have until 3 p.m. on Saturday to film and up to five 30-second scenes that reflect the theme. Film makers should upload their footage online at www.capturechatt.org. before the deadline. Once all footage is uploaded, three professional editing teams and three bands will use EPB’s Gigabit internet service to create three videos using the collected footage.
The community is invited to a screening party this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at the Majestic Theater. The three films will be screened at a party and judge Denny Tedesco will choose the winning film.
