James Virgil Robinson, 80, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, September 27, 2014. 

Jim was born in Canton, NC on May 11, 1934, the first child of Virgil and Mae Worley Robinson.  Jim graduated from Canton High School and went on to work at Champion Papers in 1956. He began his career there working in the transfer pool. In 1994, he retired from Champion after 38 years of service.  At retirement, he was superintendent of sheet finishing. Previously, he was a member of Beaverdam Methodist Church in Canton and currently, he was a member of Bayside Baptist Church in Harrison. 

Jim was a huge sports fan and attended many of the Kingsmen fast-pitch softball games in their glory days.  He was also a big fan of the ACC, the SEC, the Chattanooga Mocs and the Atlanta Braves. He was a family man and he always put the needs of his family before his own. He enjoyed spending time, especially at the beach with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His quiet personality and steady, wise advice will long be remembered and treasured by his family and friends.  

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dale Roy Robinson; his sister, Carolyn Mae Robinson Worley; and his former wife, Mary Jane Miller Robinson.  

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Cheryl Malone Robinson; his brother, Donald Robinson; his sister, June (Dr. James) Causby; his daughter, Pamela Robinson Parris; his son, Patrick Lane (Patricia) Robinson; his step-children, Frank (Lesia) Johnson, Gini Johnson and Ryan (Lindsay) Johnson; six granddaughters; three great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 3 at 5 p.m. at Bayside Baptist Church in Harrison. 

A memorial service will also be held in Canton, NC on Sunday, October 19 at 3 p.m. at Beaverdam Methodist Church. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the building fund at Bayside Baptist Church, 6100 Highway 58 Harrison, TN 37341  or to First Things First, 620 Lindsay St. Chattanooga, TN 37403. 

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
