Johnnie Spencer Edmonston, 92, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015.
Johnnie was born in Chickamauga, but had resided in Chattanooga for many years. She lived a long and varied life. In 1945 she relocated to Oak Ridge to work at the facility which contributed to the development of nuclear weapons effectively ending World War II. After retiring from BCBS she became an avid genealogist and documented ancestors dating back to pre-Revolutionary America.
Johnnie was a conscientious, disciplined worker and devoted mother, raising three children singlehandedly after the death of her husband.
She is survived by her children: Donald R. Edmonston and wife Deborah of Hull, Ga., Judith Jones of Chattanooga, Linda Edmonston of Chattanooga, grandchildren: Scott Edmonston of Hull, Ga., and Bridgette Smith of Chattanooga.
A private family service is scheduled.
