Latino Health Fair Scheduled For Sunday

  • Tuesday, October 13, 2015

The general public is invited to attend the La Paz Chattanooga 2015 Latino Health Fair on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at East Side Elementary School off of Main Street.

One of the region's most heavily attended Latino events, the Latino Health Fair brings together nearly 500 people each year, providing access to health information, screenings, activities, community healthcare provider booths, and public forums that address numerous health related topics in Spanish.

Health service providers from across the area will be on hand to share health and wellness information to the community. In addition, some health screenings and assessments will be conducted for free.

“The Latino Health Fair provides Chattanooga’s Latino residents with one location where different medical providers offer free or reduced medical related services and information,” says Christian Patiño, the La Paz director of Operations, who formerly worked at the Hamilton County Health Department. “The hope is to give more health care awareness to our growing Latino population so that they can lead healthy, productive lives.”

Representatives from the city of Chattanooga Mayor's Office will also be present to receive sign-up forms for their Get Covered health insurance enrollment initiative.

In addition, La Paz volunteers will be on hand to begin conducting the 2015 Tu Voz Latino Needs Assessment, which will extend through late November. The results from the survey will be analyzed and reported in early 2016, and will offer La Paz Chattanooga and its community partners with information to help them improve their services that address the specific needs of the Latino community.

The 2015 Latino Health Fair is made possible free of charge through the financial support and in-kind contributions from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, CHI Memorial, Caring Choice Women’s Center, Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Chattanooga, Chick-fil-A of Brainerd Village, Noticias Libres, Tropical Produce and Carniceria Loa.
