Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

South Crest Road Bridge repair project over I-24 (between MM 182.3 – 182.4) and East Main Street:  Final inspection is complete and the contractor will be addressing punchlist items.  Estimated project completion date is November.  [Mid-State Construction Co, Inc./Micka/CNN294] 

SR 317 (Apison Pike) the grading, drainage and paving on from Old Lee Highway (LM 5.58) to SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) (LM 7.84):  Work on this project continues.  During this report period, the contractor will be working on storm drains, conduits and grade work.  The contractor may have short term lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is May 2017. SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in both directions on East Brainerd Road between Graysville Road and Banks Road to perform utility work. This work will require installing road crossings and boring underneath the roadway.  The contractor may have short-term lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis.  During this report period, the contractor will have lane closures in each direction from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. each day between Graysville Road and Kinsey Drive to install a waterline.  Waterline work will continue between Graysville Road and Grays Road.  This work will require eastbound traffic to stay in the inside lane.  The contractor may have short-term lane closures to perform various operations on an as-needed basis. Shepherd Road over SR-153 construction of a rolled steel girder bridge from West Shepherd Road to Shaw Avenue in Chattanooga, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  Shepherd Road near SR-153 North is closed to allow the contractor to excavate the area.  This closure is expected to be in place until Monday.  Through January 2016, there will be intermittent nighttime lane closures as necessary in both directions on SR-153 between 8 p.m.-6 a.m.  At this time there are no scheduled lane closures to report.  Beginning on Friday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. and ending on Monday morning, Nov. 23, at 6 a.m., the contractor will be demolishing the current Shepherd Road Bridge over SR 153 and switching traffic to a portion of the newly-constructed bridge.  This phase will allow the contractor to begin construction on the second half of the new bridge.  For the safety of the traveling public, SR-153 North and South underneath the bridge will be closed to all traffic during this work.  During this closure, SR-153 traffic will be required to utilize the Shepherd Road ramps.  Additionally, Shepherd Road will be totally closed to all traffic at the bridge during this time.  Those wishing to access the airport will follow signed detour routes and use either Lee Highway or Shallowford Road to Airport Road.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary on the project.  Estimated project completion is October 2016.  [Jones Brothers Contractors, Inc./Micka/CNP105] 

SR-317 (Bonny Oaks Drive) resurfacing from SR-17 (LM 0.00 near Hillcrest Elementary School) to west of Silverdale Road (LM 4.47):  The project is complete pending final inspection.  Estimated project completion is November. [Wright Brothers Const. Co. /Pruett/CNP108] 

SR-153 resurfacing from east of Grubb Road (LM 10.85) to U.S. 27 (SR-29, LM 12.87):  Work on this project is substantially complete.  Final inspection has been done, with punchlist work remaining.  No lane closures are scheduled at this time.  Estimated project completion is November. SR-317 (Bonny Oaks Drive) improvement of the intersection with Volkswagen Drive (LM 3.85) serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be on Volkswagen Drive working on the entrance and exit driveways to and from Amazon.  The contractor may have short term lane closures on eastbound Bonny Oaks Drive at Volkswagen Drive to perform various operations on as-needed basis.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is February 2016.  [Talley Construction Company, Inc. /Pruett/CNN304] 

The tunnel cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on U.S. 11 (US 64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on U.S. 127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on U.S. 41 (U.S. 76, SR-8):  The nighttime cleaning operation of McCallie Tunnels, Stringers Ridge Tunnel, and Bachman Tubes occurs normally on Wednesday and Thursday nights during the week with the 3rd Tuesday of the month.  There will be no tunnel cleaning this week.  Work hours are between 8 p.m.-6 a.m.  Tunnels will be closed during cleaning, and detours will be marked accordingly as each tunnel is cleaned.  Contract completion date is June 2016.  [Diamond Specialized, Inc./Micka/CNP212] 

SR-58 resurfacing from south of SR-60 in Hamilton County (LM 25.97) to north of SR-306 in Meigs County (LM 4.59):  This project is complete pending addressing punchlist items.  Estimated project completion date is November.  [Rogers group Inc. /Pruett/CNP156]
