The Cleveland State Music Department presents “Celebrate the Seasons,” a holiday concert, on Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center. The concert will feature both the Cleveland State Chamber Choir and Vocal Rhapsody Men’s Ensemble.
The performances will include a variety of music from various seasons of the year and of life. It will include traditional Christmas songs, including selections from Messiah, John Rutter, Pentatonix, and Straight No Chaser. It will also include Seasons of Love, If Ever I Would Leave You, and Phantom of the Opera Medley from the Broadway genre, and a variety of musical styles celebrating the music from Doo-Wop, Motown, and the Eagles. International "celebration" songs will include African Folk Song, Italian Barcarolla (Santa Lucia), Latin based Omia Sol, and Villa-Lobos Prelude No. 5 for guitar.
Both choirs are under the direction of Karen Dale, associate professor of Music. According to Ms. Dale, “The students are excited about sharing their music with family, friends and the community. The concert is free, and we hope that everyone will come and share this evening of music with us. There may also be brief appearances by Santa, Elvis, Rudolph and the Silent Monks."
