The Cleveland Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the block of 1000 Church Street S.E., Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. to find a house with "heavy fire" coming from the kitchen area.
Engines 1, 3 and 4, Ladder 4 and Squad 1 responded. Units arrived on scene at 7:47 a.m., two minutes after the tone sounded. The fire was reported under control 8:08 a.m. and the last unit departed the scene at 10:23 a.m.
Battalion Commander Robert Gaylor reported there were no injuries. The loss to property was estimated at $30,000 and $20,000 to contents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to the fire report, the structure was under renovation. A roofing crew was replacing shingles and the owner stated he had been there the night before to replace some leaky faucets. The occupants said they did not use the stove or kitchen appliances and everything was normal when they left for work.?
