Police Blotter: Brownie Thief Nabbed; Yelling Couple Has Good Excuse

The owner of Frank's Grocery on Tunnel Boulevard said he saw James Hayes grab two brownies, then only pay for one.

He said one of the brownies was deposited in his rear pocket by the regular customer at the store.

The other he paid for at the cash register.

The brownie thief was quickly nabbed.

The owner said he did not want to prosecute over one brownie, but he does not want Hayes in his store again.

Police found that Hayes had two outstanding warrants, so he was taken to jail anyway.

The owner of a roofing firm on Fourth Avenue found there had been a break-in.

The thieves got in through a side door and took a wheelbarrow, nailers, welders, drills and other equipment.

A neighbor said he saw two white males enter the building and exit with the items. He said he thought they might be employees.

A Muslim couple said they were stopped at a traffic light at Access Road and Hixson Pike when a truck pulled alongside them.

They said a man in the truck "said some dirty things about Bin Laden and said all Muslims should die."

The couple followed the truck to the Krystal on Hixson Pike.

Police talked with the man in the truck and he denied making the statements. He said he wondered why the couple started following him.

Officials at Walmart in Lookout Valley said Savannah Wright was spotted putting items in her purse and trying to leave without paying.

They said she admitted to shoplifting a pair of black boots, some hair dye, a wave clip, some eye shadow, five pair of boxers and two pair of rat tails.

Ms. Wright was cited to court and she is evermore banned from Walmart.

Police checked out a call on Long Street of possible domestic unrest.

Neighbors said the couple had been shouting at one another.

The couple said one of them is totally hearing impaired so they have to yell.
