Larry Schumacher
The board of directors of CHI Memorial and Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) have chosen Larry Schumacher as the chief executive officer (CEO) of CHI Memorial effective Jan. 4, 2016.
Mr. Schumacher comes to CHI Memorial from Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) based in Springfield, Illinois where he served as system chief operating officer for the past eight years. HSHS operates 14 acute care hospitals serving communities in Illinois and Wisconsin with annual revenue of $2.1 billion and 14,500 associates. Prior to that, he served as president and chief executive officer of Via Christi Health Network in Wichita, Kansas and executive vice president and chief operating officer of Mercy Health Network in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mr. Schumacher started his career in critical care and cardiovascular nursing at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, Indiana University Hospital/Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Research Medical Center in Kansas City, and Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa. He has served in a variety of bedside nursing and nursing leadership roles including staff nurse, charge nurse, nurse director, and chief nursing officer.

Mr. Schumacher has a degree in nursing from the Burge School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri, a bachelor of science in nursing (cum laude) from Missouri State University, and a master of science in nursing from Indiana University. He also has an honorary doctor of science from the Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. He is very active in national and state hospital associations, nursing associations, the United Way, chambers of commerce, and other community organizations.
