Bicyclist, 24, Hit On Highway 153 Early Monday Morning

John Murphy, Jr., 24, was injured in an accident Monday morning, while riding his bike.

Around 6:13 a.m., the traffic crash with injuries occurred in the 6700 block of Highway 153 in the northbound lane just south of Boy Scout Road. Officers discovered that a man on a bicycle had been struck by a single vehicle and was seriously injured.

The following information was obtained through observation, interview, and investigation. A Honda civic was northbound in the fast lane. The bicycle was also traveling in the fast lane northbound. The driver of the Honda Civic did not immediately observe the bicycle. The driver attempted to brake and avoid collision with bicycle but was unsuccessful. Mr. Murphy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a serious injury. 

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525.  The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
