  • Tuesday, December 29, 2015

A home in the Bonny Oaks area was damaged by fire on Tuesday evening.

The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to the fire around 9:15 p.m. at 7630 Austin Dr.

The first units arrived on scene, about six minutes after the alarm came in, and reported heavy smoke coming from the split-level home and flames visible. Most of the fire damage was to the kitchen, but there was smoke damage throughout the entire structure.

The resident stated that she had started cooking and left the room. The home did have working smoke detectors and were working at the time of the fire.

The resident denied assistance saying that she and her daughter could stay with family.

Chief Jeff Eldridge called the fire under control at 9:45 a.m., and said that the loss was $40,000. No injuries were reported.
