Police Blotter: Would-Be Burglar Leaves Tennis Shoe Behind

Police said a startled would-be burglar left a tennis shoe behind when the homeowner got out of bed.

Walter Williams said he was asleep when he heard a crash at the rear of his residence on Greenwood Road.

As he went out of the bedroom he could hear voices of intruders exiting the back door.

He then discovered the tennis shoe, which was placed in the police property section.

It will cost about $300 to repair the broken back door.

Louie Yafanero said someone drove through his front yard on Waterhaven Dr.

They took out his mailbox, shrubbery and a statue.

A neighbor said he heard it happen at 2:15 a.m.

A woman said someone got into her 2014 Nissan Altima that was parked outside her apartment on East Brainerd Road.

The thief took $55.72 in an envelope that belonged to her employer, an Orange Grove group home.

Police said when Josh Lattimer was charged with theft over $1,000, they spotted 142 bullets and two fired casings in plain view.

They said Lattimer admitted to being a convicted felon.

Andrew Lundstrom said someone keyed his new Nissan Altima on E. 12th Street.

It left a large key scrape from the left side of the fender to the left side of the bumper.

It is expected to cost $900 to fix it.

He said he did not know of any enemy who would have done it.

A woman on Sims Street said her dogs barked when a black male broke through her rear bedroom window.

She said the intruder left headed toward Dodson Avenue.

James Shrader said his Nissan Pathfinder was parked at a portable building business on Dayton Boulevard when someone got inside and destroyed his dashboard.

They also left his CD player ajar.

A lock was also cut on a truck and trailer at the business.

Video showed the culprit as a white male, age 18-22, 5'9" to 5'10" and weighing about 140 pounds. A white female could also be seen in the video.

Police were sent to settle a dispute on 12th Avenue.

Carolyn Brown said Keith Webb of Millennium Taxi charged her an "unloading fee" for helping with her groceries.

She said no cab driver had ever charged her such a fee.

Mr. Webb said that was a new policy of the firm.

Police told Ms. Brown to pay up or go to jail. She paid up.

Mikayla Dreer of Rain Thai Bistro on Lee Highway said someone broke into her vehicle.

The thief got away with five Victoria's Secret sets worth $750, five pairs of high heels worth $1,500, assorted makeup valued at $1,000, a $200 curling iron, a leopard print worth $200 and assorted clothing worth $400.
