Ron Travis Officially Sworn In; Appointed Vice-Chairman Of House Insurance And Banking Committee

  • Friday, February 13, 2015

The House of Representatives officially gaveled into session this week, marking the beginning of the 109th General Assembly in Tennessee.

As part of the opening day ceremonies, State Representative Ron Travis took the oath of office and was officially sworn into the Tennessee House of Representatives. In addition, Rep. Travis was appointed as vice-Ccairman of the House Insurance and Banking Committee by Speaker Beth Harwell. The Insurance & Banking Committee considers legislation regarding insurance, banks, and other financial institutions.

Along with his chairmanship appointment, Rep. Travis will also serve as a member of the House Insurance and Banking Subcommittee, along with the House Consumer and Human Resources Committee. The Consumer and Human Resources Committee reviews legislation dealing with consumer protection laws, and all human resource and labor law regulations statewide.

This year, legislators are looking to build upon the success of the previous session that saw wasteful government spending cut from the budget, taxes lowered for all Tennesseans, measures passed to encourage job growth, and numerous government reforms.

“Our community sent me here to support policies that will strengthen our economy and produce more job opportunities, ensure our budget remains balanced, and fight government waste. Today, I am proud to continue serving my constituents and doing just that,” said Rep. Travis. "In addition, I am truly honored to serve as vice-chairman of the Insurance and Banking Committee and look forward getting to work in the coming weeks."

House Speaker Beth Harwell (R–Nashville) said, “It is a pleasure guiding the House of Representatives and working alongside talented and dedicated individuals like Rep. Travis. I am confident we are going to accomplish a great deal this session for all Tennesseans.”

Rep. Travis said, “I truly believe this will be a very productive year. In Tennessee, we work together to get the job done."
