Chattanooga Set To Get Freezing Rain; Hamilton County Under Winter Storm Warning

Chattanooga is expected to get freezing rain that may lead to hazardous roads and power outages.

At one time the forecast was for up to six inches of snow. However, most of the snow has been removed from the forecast..

Hamilton County has been placed under a winter storm warning - stepped up from the earlier winter storm watch.

The freezing rain is expected to begin Monday morning.

TDOT officials said, "Counties north of I-40 are predicted to receive 6-10" of snow while south of I-40 is expected to receive a mix with accumulations varying from 1-4"."

TO 7 AM EST /6 AM CST/ TUESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER
IN EFFECT.

* EVENT....FREEZING RAIN OR SLEET DEVELOPING...POSSIBLY MIXING WITH
OR CHANGING TO RAIN. THE PRECIPITATION MAY MIX WITH OR CHANGE TO
SNOW AND SLEET BEFORE TAPERING OFF. SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS
OF UP TO AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO A
QUARTER OF AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE.

* TIMING...PRECIPITATION WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA MONDAY
MORNING...AND WILL TAPER OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT MONDAY NIGHT.

Tonight A slight chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet after 5am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10%.

  • Washington's Birthday Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 1pm, then rain or freezing rain. High near 35. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
