Winter Storm Warning For Chattanooga Downgraded To Winter Weather Advisory; Snow Forecast Pulled Back

A Winter Storm Warning for Chattanooga has been pulled back to a Winter Weather Advisory.

The city at one time seemed likely to get up to six inches of snow, but the heavy snow is now set to fall further north.

However, freezing rain could make area streets and roads very treacherous.

WEATHER ADVISORY A MIX OF SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM THIS
MORNING TO 7 AM EST TUESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN
CANCELLED.

* EVENT....FREEZING RAIN OR SLEET DEVELOPING THIS MORNING...POSSIBLY
  MIXING WITH OR CHANGING TO RAIN. THE PRECIPITATION MAY MIX WITH
  OR CHANGE TO SNOW AND SLEET THIS EVENING BEFORE TAPERING OFF.
  SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE.
  ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO ONE FIFTH OF AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE.

* TIMING...PRECIPITATION WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA THIS MORNING...AND
  WILL TAPER OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT.

* IMPACTS...ICE AND SNOW ACCUMULATION MAY BRING WIDESPREAD
  HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ON ROADWAYS...AS WELL AS POWER

AND WALKING MAY BE DIFFICULT ON UNTREATED ROADWAYS AND SIDEWALKS.

Washington's Birthday Freezing rain and sleet before 1pm, then rain or freezing rain between 1pm and 4pm, then rain after 4pm. High near 37. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. Total daytime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

  • Tonight Rain and sleet before 1am, then a chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet between 1am and 4am. Low around 24. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight.
