Woman In Motorized Wheelchair In The Dark On Gunbarrel Road Is Struck And Killed

A woman in a motorized wheelchair on Gunbarrel Road late Friday night was struck and killed.

She was identified as 55-year-old Roschell W. Ware.

The Chattanooga Police Department responded at 10:23 p.m. to 2400 Gunbarrel Road on the collision.

·         The pedestrian was traveling in the road in the southbound lane in the motorized wheelchair.

·         A witness to the collision advised he was traveling south on Gunbarrel Road and nearly struck the pedestrian.

·         The driver of the second vehicle advised officers that they did not see the pedestrian traveling in the southbound lane until the last moment.

·         Initially the pedestrian refused to be transported to a hospital, but later agreed to be transported for what was thought to be non-life threatening injuries.

·         Upon arrival at the hospital the pedestrian’s condition deteriorated and she later died due to unknown causes.

·         The Medical Examiner’s office was notified and an examination has been ordered.

·         No intoxication was believed to have contributed to the collision.

·         The hospital was able to notify the family of the passing.
