O'Shae Kadaris Smith
A man charged with attempted first-degree murder on Sixth Avenue Court on Thursday afternoon was shot himself earlier this month.
O'Shae Kadaris Smith, 20, of 2114 E. 12th St., is also charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime.
He was one of two people shot on Rawlings Street on March 16.
Kendre Allen, 18, was shot at 2500 6th Ave. at approximately 1:39 p.m. He was hit in the right hip.
He was transported by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police said they were advised that the shooter got into a gray Pontiac Grand Prix.
An officer spotted a vehicle matching that description leaving the area and followed it.
As the officer was trying to stop the vehicle, he said he saw the front passenger reaching toward the driver's side of the car as if to hide something.
Tiffany Lee, Deniquia McPherson, Smith and two juveniles were taken from the vehicle along with a .40-caliber Sig P250 handgun.
The two females said the gun was not in the car prior to Smith getting in.
A check of the gun showed that it contained two different brands of .40-caliber rounds. The same two brands were found at the shooting scene.
The gun had a capacity of 13 rounds and had five remaining in it.
Smith told police he knows Allen, but would not hurt him.
He said he was told that Rolling 40's Crips were in the area and he stated, "---- them, this is my hood."
Smith, later in the interview, said if someone tried to hurt him he would "do what he had to do."
Police said Smith is a validated member of the Gangster Disciples, who police said "are currently at war with the Rolling 60's and Rolling 40's gang."
Police said Allen is a validated member of the Rolling 40's.
Police said, "Currently, there is a Violence Reduction Initiative enforcement into the Gangster Disciples for ongoing gang violence."
Smith was out on bond at the time for charges that include possessing a firearm and attempting to evade police.
Bond for Smith was set by General Sessions Court Judge David Bales at $495,000.
