Bettie June Bradford Gossett Sosebee died on Friday, April 10, 2015.

She was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Chattanooga, and she was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Bettie June graduated in 1949 from Central High School and continued her education at UT in Knoxville and soon married Jack L. Gossett, after having her two children,  Bettie decided to go back to UTC in her mid-40s and graduated with her master’s in teaching.

While her two daughters Claudia and Charlotte were growing up she acted as a Girl Scout and Brownie Troop Leader, and also was affiliated with the Garden Club of Hillsboro Heights.

Bettie went to Chattanooga State where she completed several continuing education certifications.

Afterwards she worked for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant in Chattanooga, she taught one year at Lakeview Middle School and went on to work for Chattanooga State. She taught on campus as well as off campus, GED classes at the  Community Kitchen, Mary Walker Tower, and Brock Candy, just to name a few. Bettie June decided after teaching for several years to make a career change and so she set her sights on counseling and worked as a drug and alcohol advisor at CADAS of Chattanooga. Soon after she began there she met her last husband James Farris Sosebee. At some point afterward, she decided to open a thrift shop. She had been retired for several years but still she conducted Black Bottom Poetry Guild, and helped Vietnam Veterans receive their proper recognition. Bettie was a notary republic for many years.

Over the last 13 years she was a part of a home prayer group that met about every two weeks. It was comprised of eight or more persons all of whom but four have gone on before her.  Bettie June was the kindest and most thoughtful Christian woman and will be greatly missed.

Bettie was an honorary member of the Magnolia Chapter Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. for military widows.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Lee and Rose Mary Bradford, husband, Jack Lambert Gossett, daughter, Claudia J. Gossett, and her second husband, James Farris Sosebee.
