Circuit Court Clerk Henry Says He Has Now Cut $270,455 From The Payroll

  • Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Circuit Court Clerk Larry Henry told the County Commission on Wednesday that he has now cut over $270,000 from the payroll.

He had announced earlier that he found that there was a position of jury clerk that was "at a full-time salary, but it was not a full-time job." He said an existing employee took over those duties, saving over $60,000.

Mr. Henry said additional savings included not filling the post of an employee who left the office.

He said Sherry Rumfelt is retiring from the office after 40 years of service. An existing employee will take her place as a bench clerk in court.

Mr. Henry said the duties of the employee who is becoming a bench clerk will be handled in the office. The new bench clerk is getting a raise, but the savings will still be $48,586, he said.

He said additional savings were in reducing payments to Republic Parking for employee parking spaces from $654 per month to $100 a month.

The former County Commission member said there were "red flags" concerning office expenses when he took over after the last election. He said, with the help of office staff, those situations were dealt with.

He also said, "We have got a good jump on installing an E Filing system" that will allow around-the-clock access to court documents. Attorneys will be able to file documents from their home or office.

Mr. Henry said he had certain goals for the office and "we are probably close to a year ahead of where I wanted to be at this time."
