Annual Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Commemoration) Observance Is April 15

The Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga invites the community to its annual Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance) observance on Wednesday, April 15. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with the reading of names of victims by diverse members of the community. The observance will continue at 7 p.m. with the participation of Holocaust survivors, their children, grandchildren and children of concentration camp liberators.  

There is no cost to attend. The observance will take place at the Jewish Cultural Center, 5461 North Terrace Road. 

This annual observance includes candle lighting, a reading, a visual essay, music and prayers. This year the observance will include a keynote address by Arthur Pais of Knoxville. Mr. Pais is a Holocaust survivor who was born in 1927 in Ukmerge, Lithuania.  He is the survivor of the Kovno ghetto and Dachau Concentration Camp. Mr. Pais is recognized by the Tennessee Holocaust Commission for his work with schools.
